Mosquitoes

Red imported fire ants

Outdoors, it recommends bait over the whole lawn, followed by mound treatments, which can cut mounds by 80 to 90 percent.
Subterranean termites
Eastern subterranean termites are a Texas-wide concern, and AgriLife says it is nearly impossible to tell how old wood damage is. Where houses have crawl spaces, its guide calls for a 6-mil plastic ground cover over most of the soil and about one square foot of vent for every 150 square feet. Wooden porches and steps belong on concrete footings that lift them off the soil.
American cockroaches
Texas A&M calls the American cockroach the state's biggest, growing up to 2 inches long, and a regular in sewers and commercial buildings. Doors that do not seal, roof soffits and floor drains all admit it. AgriLife says water-filled P-traps form a barrier between the sewer and the building. Removing food and moisture forces roaches to travel further each night, which strains the population and helps baits work.
Norway and roof rats
Two species dominate Texas, the Norway rat and the roof rat, and Texas A&M's school pest program says roof rats favor attics, roof spaces and shrubs off the ground. Inspect around garage doors, roof vents and flashing, and ground-level gaps beneath siding. Texas A&M recommends setting three times more snap traps than you expect to need, checking them daily, and sealing entry holes with metal wool or low-expansion foam.
