Rodent work here is about boulders and outbuildings rather than block walls. The granite formations that make this area beautiful are also permanent woodrat habitat, and the nests they build in rock crevices and under sheds are established structures that persist for years. Treating a house without addressing the nest nearby is temporary at best. We locate the nests, deal with them properly, and then seal the structure so the next generation has nowhere to go, focusing on crawl space vents, foundation gaps and the outbuildings where feed and stored goods actually are.
The older housing downtown brings a wood and moisture problem. Homes around Whiskey Row and the surrounding historic blocks are frame construction, many with crawl spaces, and carpenter ants follow water into any wood that has stayed damp. Finding the leak is the first half of the job. Wildlife work is the other regular piece, and we handle skunks, raccoons and bats with exclusion and one-way devices rather than trapping, done outside maternity season so we are not sealing young animals inside a structure.
